Call for Session and Workshop Proposals
TFLA Fall 2015 Conference
Proposal Deadline EXTENDED: April 15, 2015
Conference Theme Proficiency and Beyond: Global Competency through Language, Culture and Literature
Houston Marriott Westchase
October 15 - 17, 2015
Conference Abstract: With global competency as our focus and language proficiency as our goal, our challenge as world language educators is to find innovative, enriching ways for our students to communicate with others, interact with cultures besides their own and gain literacy while exploring art and literature from around the world. Whether by using technologies, authentic resources, performances or projects, our task is to broaden our students' views and stretch the boundaries of their experience so the potential for their futures nears limitlessness. The world they live in demands a skill set that no longer boxes them into a single job or career path, but rather shapes them into multi-faceted professionals who are qualified for a rapidly evolving job market. This year's TFLA Annual Conference will promote building students' language and cultural proficiency by focusing on research based principles and strategies proven to aid in second language acquisition, grooming 21st century skills and developing higher order thinking through the study of languages and literature.
Strands: Choose one strand with which your proposal best aligns. Our conference strands are directly influenced by the TELL Project domains. For a more in depth description of each strand please visit http://www.tellproject.org/framework/.

* Relate clearly to one of the seven strands.
* Reflect current, research-based, best practices in the field.
* Incorporate standards-based language instruction.
* Promote a communicative approach to language teaching and learning.
* Include a plan for assessing participants' learning that takes place in the session or workshop.
* Focus on qualities of effective teachers and strategies that help participants to become more effective.
* Provide resources that participants can use to reference in the future or to immediately implement into their instruction.
